Three things we don't look at, two we do
The repository's recruitment note puts it plainly:
We do not care about 985 or 211, or about your major or year ranking; selection is based entirely on ability and potential. We believe in women's potential in STEM and reserve at least 30% of internship places for women applicants.1
How to apply
- Email: wuwei@rv2036.org (Mr Wu)
- Subject: "position number - name - phone number - school"; if you have already graduated, replace the school with "part-time"
- Body: no more than 300 words, a self-introduction relevant to the position
- Attachment: a PDF CV (emails without one are not guaranteed a reply)
- Position list: the repository's
open-internships.md
What the position numbers mean
The prefix changes, because it records which organisation opened the position in which year:
- Currently open are
K181–K185(openEuler robotics package maintenance, openKylin embodied intelligence, RT-Thread, FlagOS RISC-V, RISC-V robotics); every description says "this position is part of the Five-Colour Stone Project"; - The same page also lists
H177/H178(embodied-intelligence hardware, AI algorithm deployment),E17x(ECOS and "One Student One Chip"),BJ45/BJ18(compilers and MLIR); - Below that is a whole section of "historical positions (no longer recruiting interns)", where 120 closed positions sit — from V8, Gem5, Gentoo, Arch and Aya to various teams that have since disbanded.
That section is itself the history of this repository. Numbers are not deleted, because the people who were in them are still here.
The bar
The default bar is LV2: able to use git for team collaboration, to complete development and testing assigned by a mentor within a week, and fluent with the Linux command line. We generally do not hire LV0 or LV1.
If you are already LV3 (able to analyse a bug or crash independently), congratulations — you have reached the entry line for the Five-Colour Stone candidate pool; LV4 (able to take on module-level development independently, and to point out mistakes made by those above you) is the entry line for a full-time offer and the training track.2
Besides an internship, three other routes
- RSS for position updates: <{{ "rss.xml" | absURL }}> on this site, or watch the repository directly;
- Development board drifting: people without a board can apply for one —
rv2036/riscv-board-wandering; - Public free courses: RISC-V technical courses across all categories, open to anyone (one of the cornerstones of the Five-Colour Stone Project).
If you are not applying yet
You are also welcome to pass this site to someone looking for their first stepping stone. What this repository has done for nine years is essentially that small step that turns a stranger into a contributor — and that step usually needs someone already on the road to say a word.
